The last things you need are worries about your move. We suggest
the following schedule of events to ease your transition.
Before You Move:
Address Change
Complete address change form at Post Office
Provide friends and relatives with new address and phone numbers
Bank
Transfer funds and arranges check cashing in new city.
Insurance
Notify company of new location for coverage (Life, Health, Fire, & Auto)
Delivery Service
Stop newspaper delivery and any other home delivery services
you may have.
Utility Companies
Arrange for refunds on any deposits made on old address and
request credit reference letter from utility company(s) to avoid
large deposits in new location.
Arrange for utility service at new address
(Gas, Electricity, Water, Telephone, Garbage, & Recycling)
Medical
Ask your physician(s) and dentist(s) for referrals
Obtain copies of medical and dental records.
Transfer prescriptions
Pets
Inquire about regulations for licenses, vaccinations, tags,
etc.
Make arrangements for transporting pets.
On Moving Day
Bring travelers checks for quick available funds.
Bring enough cash to cover cost of moving services and expenses
until you make banking connections in new city.
Transport jewelry and important documents yourself
Double check closets, drawers and shelves to be sure they are
empty
Leave all old keys needed by new owner or tenant with Realtor
or landlord
At Your New Address
Check on service of telephone, gas, electricity, water, garbage
and recycling
Check pilot light on stove, hot water heater, and furnace
Have fireplace inspected
Apply for state driver’s license, if necessary or have
address recorded on current driver’s license. In Greenville,
you may also register to vote while obtaining you new driver’s
license.
Register car within five days of arrival in a new state to avoid
penalty
Obtain auto inspection sticker
Register children in school
Arrange for medical and dental services |
